Arvinder Kaur

farewell -
a song still trembles
in the harp strings

rustle of leaves -
the music of all that lives
and dies

vermilion sky -
the silence of her footsteps
across the courtyard

train window -
moon from home comes along
all the way

Selected Haiku...

hydrangea clouds -
how deep the layers
of this longing

soldier's homecoming -

the evening star so close
in the window

rain tipped leaf -

the moist edges
of her lashes

Selected Haiku...

The wishes
I no longer remember -
fallen lashes

winter burial -
mother's pale fragility
wrapped in pashmina

another day -

the moonlight shrinks
a wee bit more

fading daylight -
sand grains slip off
a soldier's palm

susurrations ...
a crumpled letter
begins to open

chopsticks ...

keeping the tastiest morsel
till the end

mother's wrinkles -

how silent this braille
on her face

broken bridge - a langur's leap from fog to fog

farm stream -
the moon slips across
the barbed wire

alien pathways -

the gps brings me
back to her

pine branches -

the quiet fall
of snowflakes

autumn arrives

with swaying hips
ochre kimono

peepal boughs -

the fading sunlight
on hopscotch squares

           ❧

                                                         Selected Haiku...

gran's funeral -
stringing a lullaby
in the wreath

another savan -
a widow's white dupatta
against a rainbow

soap bubbles...
a rainbow glides off
my palm

hearth soot-
all that remains
of grandma's recipes

lengthening shadows -

a drop of the sun
slips from my hand

overnight showers -
the day moon trembles
in a bomb crater

an old scar-
the rain feels colder
than ever

Picture

the same pull
in every scar -
prisoners of war

so many diyas
adrift on the lake -
memorial day

balloons...
a bit of my breath
up at the ceiling

prayer meeting -
an unsolved crossword
on the mantlepiece
