Meet the Poet


Anara Guard

​Anara Guard is a fiction writer and poet who has lived in Chicago, Minnesota, Boston, a small town in New England, and now resides in Sacramento. She received the John Crowe Ransom Poetry Prize from Kenyon College and attended the Bread Loaf Writers Workshop in fiction. Her poems were recently included in Convergence and Late Peaches, an anthology of Sacramento poets. In 2015, she taught at the American River College SummerWords Creative Writing Festival. She has been featured at True Story and at Stories on Stage Sacramento, as well as the 2nd annual Celebration Arts Story Telling Festival. Her new collection of short stories, Remedies for Hunger (New Wind Publishing) received four stars from the Chicago Book Review and was featured in their Best Books of 2015 list. When not writing, Anara makes homemade jams and marmalades. Read.
