Blue Moon Over 7-11  ☊

A full moon glows high over 7-11
Pork rinds, candy bars, and wrinkled hot dogs
Wait inside, and craters wait above
White Lines by Grandmaster Melle Mel stuck in my head
(Get higher baby)

I drop two Milky Way Midnights into my gullet
And rush home, recalling how I used to take my son
Out at night, before bed, nestled in my arms, and have him say
Goodnight to the moon, to luna.
We peer at her through binoculars
On dewy grass.
(Get higher baby)

Selenic orb peeking back,
Awaiting its goodnights,
We bid adieu
Then we read Shel Silverstein, and
Morpheus and Hypnos pulls him
Into the world of sleep.
(Get higher baby)

(Rang dang diggedy dang di-dang)
Catching the moon’s reflection
Off of a silvered window,
I’m reminded of the simple pleasures
Awash in reigniting tradition-
This only happens once in a blue moon.

Children's Wooden Blocks

Children’s wooden blocks
Bauhaus architecture stacked
Euclidean glee

Tattoos & Cigarettes

I remember when you were all
Tattoos & cigarettes
For me-

Cherries and swallows inked on your skin
You knew how tattoos got me going
Especially on you.

How you used to light a Marlboro
With a devilish grin
And blow your smoke right at me

Maybe a few smoky kisses,
Sexy in your scally cap
While you’d snap inhale

Huge white balls of smoke
Popping out of your mouth,
Right back in,

God how I loved that,
And you knew how your smoking got me going-
Your smoking was always the sexiest.

In our little barn
You’d show off your new tattoos
Smiling like the sun.

Perseids

Perseids out tonight
Dashing the sky with spice
Cassiopeia illuminating the heavens
Despite the Gorgon of light pollution
Perseus can’t slay this Medusa
But I watch,
We watch anyway,
For a glimpse of the
Silvery streaks that remind us
We are one

The Robin Chirped at Midnight

The mosquito was sucking my blood
and I let her.

My heart was breaking
and I let her.

Her Solstice Heart

Midnight’s glowing solstice moon
From moonrise to moonset-
She feels, hears, sees
Magic, crickets, skunks, dew-

She’s summer.

Malic Acid

He spelled the word ‘CUNT’
Out of wooden matchsticks on the sticky
bar table. A riotous punchline, But what was the setup?
Riffs of blues moonwalk through open doors-
Sounds of ambrosia and spilled honey

Oozing down bucking hips,
Ivy overtaking her thighs;
The tart sting of biting an Esopus Spitzenburg

When staring at her dahlia eyes,
Gaze unmet through the black of oppressive humidity.
Heart stood up again, just like a comedian.

This Side of the Afterlife

Tearing down the road,
Witching hour spent like
a twenty,
and I twitch-

My vision catches this
Movement;
Quick as silver,
Gone like bronze.

I start to hit the brakes,
Peripheral vision seeing
a raccoon speeding
Down the street, in the gutter,
Out of view of the sodium lamps

Deep in shadow,
Pawing the ground at 45 mph easy,
and I turn the corner,
Laughing, nerves shot,

Realizing it wasn’t no
psychopomp,
It was only a goddamn shadow.
