Lauren Lola

The Storyteller

Tell me a story
about where your life began
where you were raised
who loved you
and who you loved along the way

Tell me a story
about your friends and family
your mentors and mentees
your lovers and haters
the strangers you’d walk by
and the ones who you wished were in your life

Tell me a story
about your hobbies
your interests
your goals
your fantasies
your reality

Tell me a story
about your struggles
about what you overcame
about what you’re still overcoming
about who stuck by you
and who went away

Tell me a story
about your successes
both the believable and unbelievable
the work that came with it
and the obstacles along the way

Tell me a story
about the questions you’d ask
that you’ve spent hours pondering on
about the answers you find
and the theories you’re still toying with

Tell me a story
about your past lives
(if any)
who you were
what you experienced
and how it was enough
for you to be born again

Tell me a story
about your future
what you hope for
what you wish for
where you see yourself
and where you don’t

Tell me a story
about your present
what you’re thinking now
what you’re feeling now
what you’re doing now
and what you’re discovering now

Tell me a story

You press my head to your chest
and let your heartbeat do the talking

Lauren Lola's Profile

Bardo

Blue bay hills appear on the horizon
of the emerging night sky
as the sun fades away
and the rain clouds hang around

The water is still
the city lights twinkling
and the one lone plane
makes its way across the
light yet dark sky

This is a trance between time
a lingering moment between what has come to pass
and has yet to come

There is a word for this in Tibetan
 bardo
"in-between state"

The blue bay hills are visible now
but soon will not be
but they remain without question

All is mission
all is seen
all is tranquilly taken in and accepted
as I stare from this library window

Jellyfish Blues

In another world
in another era
in another life
the world was a bit deeper
but my friends and I were soft and bright

We embodied our bright colors
and honed our individual bright lights
and we danced to a song only we could hear

We floated and danced
and danced and floated
when all was align with the time in our lives
and everything was set in motion to our rhythm

But then we woke up and we look to see
the different lives we live now than before
and we can't help but ponder
whether it was a dream
or a different kind of reality

That's why we sway to the jellyfish blues
where to embody the color and the light
would be a world worthy to embrace

Elaboration

Simplicity is a bugger
when not enough is given away
No need for complexity
when elaboration is what’s recommended
There’s a fine line between both

Don’t just show me a body
give me bones and working organs too
Forget the stick figures
paint me a portrait
I’d prefer to explore a barrier reef
than an empty ocean floor

Speak in straight lines
but make them long lines
Say what you mean
and make it heavy with substance

The 99% Life (An English-to-English Translation of Lorde's "Royals")

I’ve never seen a diamond in the flesh
I cut my teeth on wedding rings in the movies
And I’m not proud of my address
In the torn up town no postcode envy

But every song’s like
Gold teeth, Grey Goose, tripping in the bathroom
Bloodstains, ball gowns, trashing the hotel room
We don’t care
We’re driving Cadillacs in our dreams
But everybody’s like
Cristal, Maybach, diamonds on your timepiece
Jet planes, islands, tiger’s on a gold leash
We don’t care
We aren’t caught up in your love affair

And we’ll never be royals
It don’t run in our blood
That kind of lux just ain’t for us
We crave a different kind of buzz
Let me be your ruler
You can call me queen bee and baby I’ll rule
Let me live that fantasy

My friends and I, we’ve cracked the code
We count our dollars on the train to the party
And everyone who knows us knows
We’re fine with this-
We didn’t come for money

We’re bigger than we ever dream
And I’m in love with being queen
Life is great without a care
We aren’t caught up in your love affair

Define for me the word “fame”
When all I see is hype
There’s a difference between them both
As I spot from my suburban life

We don’t want your clothes
They’re not fit beyond a runway
We don’t want your drugs
Go smoke them up in the backseat of your limo
Did I forget to screw the limo?
I’d prefer subtleness rather than conspicuity
We don’t want your drama
We have bigger problems that that
Guess who’s the stronger folk

We shall not be seated on the thrones
We’re not bred for this life
It just ain’t our birthright
We’re on the outside looking in
From a world that’s anything but contained
You’re in a bubble
With a crown weighing you down from floating away

We work jobs and pay loads/loans to be educated
We escape into clubs and beer bottles and
Netflix streamings for recreation
We are so terribly, terribly complex
But that’s what makes us
The 99 percent

Guess who’s the stronger folk
The celebrity or the civilian
Guess who’s the legit folk
The person of luxury or the human of reality
