Ernesto P. Santiago

Tanka and Haiku...

on a leaf, sailing
smoothly to bygone phrases
laced with time I bow
to unknown spirits, watching
trees dance in orphic autumn

autumn colors
her untouched image
without makeup

autumn breaks
in the balcony garden
coloring pages

I wish someone
a happy solar return~
falling star

he loves me, he loves me not--
her imperfect sense of which
one works and which one does not

a soft autumn light~
trying to lean as close
to your warm body

amidst the green field
behind grandpa’s old brick house
lies a broken fridge,
unmindful of time passing
until my mom calls me home

now breaking out
a lovely morn sun
after the storm~
countless drifted souls
meet outside of it

spring wind
the poet hums its song
on paper

confession~
behind the holy screen
an orchid mantis
Picture

Ernesto P. Santiago's Profile

cirque du soleil
helping me tame
winter dragons

sweet spring~
I opened a page
to daydream

returning home
a soldier embraces his
broken steps

the finest line drawn~
between silent stirs and sighs
of swaying roses
in such perfection for myth
charmed by breath of a night wind

the devil
in his face— red
chilli’s heat

Selected Haiku...

freshwater
the friendly fish
exfoliate my feet

male woodpecker
attracting its mate~
no sleeping in

baby's breath
the scent of a river
still in me

removing heat
I surrender myself to
dark chocolate

shelling the nuts
of dad's old stories keeps me
close to life

don't pad
your words to love~
red rose
the devil
in his face— red
chilli’s heat
sleepless night—my bed sharing baby
still sucking
